Presented by Illuman NorCal and Illuman DC, Elders at the Gate is a three-day virtual experience inviting men into deeper brotherhood with themselves, others, and the Spirit.
Utilizing story, image, ritual, and council, men are led, shoulder-to-shoulder, through a journey of self-exploration and understanding. Elders at the Gate brings men to the threshold of liminal space, a space where authentic sharing of one’s life and story catalyzes spiritual transformation in themselves and others.
The event is truly a first of its kind in being created from the ground up through collective action from Illuman men in tandem with Spirit. Our time together will focus on our individual and collective explorations of the discernment, ‘How do I live my power?’ Drawing from the communal wisdom and talents of the brotherhood, as well as never-before-seen video footage of Richard Rohr and other Illuman elders, free spaces for locating, and cultivating a greater understanding of your own answer to the topic will be offered. We gather to assist one another in traveling closer toward our True Self. No matter where you find yourself on your path, whether you are new to this work or have been in it for years, Elders at the Gate offers a welcoming home for You, all of you, to be seen, known, and loved.
Join us at the gate to begin our adventure together!

A HERO’S JOURNAL
(Virtual Writing Retreat)
Sponsored by Ohio Chapter of Illuman
January 7-8, & January 15, 2022
Who are the gods that are accompanying you?
What do Narcissus and Mentor say to you?
Illuman is dedicated to helping men on a spiritual journey. That quest is what this writing retreat is about. What are the myths that are guiding your journey? We will draw some of our inspiration from the work of author and storyteller Michael Meade.
You don’t have to think of yourself as a poet to greatly benefit from this Illuman writing retreat. The weekend is open to men of all writing experiences—from complete novice to published author. We mainly focus on free-verse, open-form poetry. You won’t have to worry about rhyming, cadence, nor other aspects of some classical poetry.
We will gather virtually as a large group, but we will also experience some time one-on-one with another participant, and there is an extended lunch and wandering included for Saturday. All this is to say that the retreat has a lot of variety in it. You won’t be sitting watching experts talk about poetry. You will be invited to be fully involved.
This will be the fifth year for the writing retreat sponsored by Ohio Illuman. We are thrilled to invite men from around the world to join us in this reflective writing journey as we gather virtually to share our real-life mythic experiences.
Come join us on an epic poetry writing retreat!
We ask you to attend the entire retreat if possible.
